Musician Craig Heath revoked bail in relation to alleged property frauds

A country music singer turned accused property scam artist allegedly conned more than 30 vulnerable people out of their savings, including his own family.
Craig Heath, who once claimed to have worked with country music star Keith Urban, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 26 as police sought to revoke his bail.
Mr Heath is accused of running an elaborate $21m investment scam where he allegedly pretended to be a property developer offering to rebuild homes before making off with the cash.
Detective Senior Constable Lisa Mitchell alleged that Mr Heath has breached a number of his bail conditions, such as allegedly keeping documents belonging to the victims such as passports and drivers’ licences.
It is also alleged that while on bail Mr Heath breached his bail by pretending to be a financial broker.
The court heard Mr Heath’s alleged new offending involved him “demanding more and more funds” from an alleged victim which totalled nearly $30,000.
Mr Heath appeared in court via video link from Ravenhall Correctional Centre.
Ms Mitchell argued Mr Heath should not be granted bail due to his continued dishonesty towards his identity.
They also argued that Mr Heath continued to target “vulnerable people” while he was out on bail.
Ms Mitchell also argued Mr Heath should not be allowed out on bail as he may interfere with witnesses.
Ms Mitchell also said the “investigation was continually evolving” with more evidence for police to sift through.
Mr Heath spent much of the court proceeding shaking his head while Ms Mitchell gave her evidence.
Mr Heath had his hands in his head towards the end of the hearing.
The court heard Mr Heath missed multiple court hearings throughout 2024.
One of the alleged victims was in attendance in court via video link, the court heard.
It is alleged Heath’s offending began back in 2011.
Mr Heath will spend the long weekend in custody and will be back in court on October 2 at 2pm.
