A Carrum man says he is lucky to be alive after fighting off two thugs who allegedly tried to stab him in his sleep during a terrifying home invasion this morning.
Theodore Angelidis said he was lucky enough to walk away with a few cuts and bruises after he was woken by two attackers who kicked his Valetta St front door in and attacked him as he slept about 1.45am.
Mr Angelidis’ mother’s screams can be heard from footage captured on CCTV which shows one man trying to open the door with his hands before kicking it down and bursting inside.
The thugs stayed in the house for less than 15 seconds and knocked a large pot down in the driveway as they fled the scene.
In a post on social media, Mr Angelidis said he did not know who the assailants were as they covered their faces but believes they may be known to him.
“This person must know who I am because they ran straight for my bedroom to try and stab me while (I was) asleep,” he said.
“Lucky I was asleep on the couch and had time to get up and defend myself.”
Victoria Police confirmed Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives were investigating.
“It is believed two unknown men forced entry into a Valetta St address about 1.45am. A male occupant woke to the noise and confronted the offenders before a scuffle ensued,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman told the Leader.
“The offenders then took off in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction.
“The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident and did not require medical treatment.”
