Cases by region: Positive sign for Kingston as coronavirus cases steady

The number of people suffering from coronavirus in the City of Kingston has decreased since yesterday. But across the state there was an increase of 60 new cases.

There are positive signs for the City of Kingston amid the coronavirus outbreak, with the number of active cases decreasing since yesterday.

No more people tested positive to the deadly disease overnight, with the area’s total sitting at five active cases behind hard-hit areas including Hume on 64 and Brimbank on 36.

It comes as the state’s total increased by 60, with four cases reclassified due to duplications.

There has been 34 cases recorded in Kingston since the virus hit Australian shores, ahead of neighbouring municipalities Bayside (35 cases), Glen Eira (60) and Frankston (41).

There are five active cases in Greater Dandenong with 27 cases recorded in the area since the outbreak.

“It remains critical to practice good hygiene in and outside the home – wash your hands regularly, cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow and try to avoid touching your face,” chief health officer Professor Brett Sutton said.

“Stay 1.5 metres away from anyone you don’t live with and avoid crowds, especially indoors. If you can keep working from home – you must keep working from home.

“We have made some great progress in slowing the spread of coronavirus, but we are still seeing new cases in the community.”
