Melbourne Magistrates’ Court: Yusuf Amir ‘lengthy’ drug addiction motivator in theft of footy players luxury ride

The man who stole Dusty Martin’s $150k Range Rover and then rammed a police car has a history of jumping behind the wheel of rigs which don’t belong to him.

Dustin Martin had leant his car to a friend before it got stolen from a petrol station last year.

A man who stole Richmond superstar Dustin Martin’s luxury 4WD will be assessed for a drug and alcohol treatment order after a string of car thefts across Melbourne.

Yusuf Amir, 30, on Wednesday appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court where it was decided his “lengthy” drug addiction was cause enough to consider a drug and treatment order as a sentence.

Amir stole Martin’s $150,000 luxury Range Rover in January this year before later ramming a police car as he tried to get away.

The Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard Martin had lent the car to a friend before Amir jumped in the driver’s seat as the mate went to pay at a Coles Express service station.

Hours later, police came across the stolen vehicle parked on Barkly St.

Amir tried to reverse away, driving into a brick wall before hitting an unmarked police car at speed.

Amir was also busted in July 2022 for possessing GHB and ice, and for resisting arrest.

Amir also stole a car worth $40,000 from Coburg in December last year which he then drove along Sydney Rd carelessly, whilst being disqualified.

In January this year Amir continued his thievery, pinching a $50,000 CX9 from Noble Park, just weeks before jumping in the driver’s seat of Martin’s luxury car.

The day after Amir pinched the luxury ride, he was busted carrying 1,4 butanol and cannabis.

The Magistrate ruled there was enough reason to allow Amir to be assessed for a drug and alcohol treatment order but made no guarantee that would be the sentence he received.

He will return to court next month.
