Man given good behaviour bond for filming female housemate in bathroom of Chadstone house

A MAN who pleaded guilty to filming his female housemate naked in the shower has been given a good behaviour bond.

A MAGISTRATE has handed down a good behaviour bond to a man who filmed his female housemate naked in the shower.

Yesterday, Moorabbin Magistrates' Court heard Sang Hoon Han, 31, pleaded guilty to using a camera to video his housemate in the bathroom of the Chadstone home they shared.

Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Steve McGinness told the court Han was outside the house when he used a video camera to spy on the victim by peering through a ventilation window.

Sen-Constable McGinness said she saw Han with the camera when she got out of the shower and began dressing.

"She was frozen with fear,'' Sen-Constable McGinness said.

Defence lawyer Veronika Drago said a diversion was an appropriate penalty for the offence, for which Han had shown great remorse.

She said Han was a chemical engineer with the CSIRO and had excellent career prospects, and a conviction was not warranted.

"His guilt was so bad he never even looked at the video,'' Ms Drago said.

"It is out of character for him, his level of contrition is remarkable.''

But Magistrate Rosemary Carlin disagreed about the diversion, saying the incident was a "gross breach of trust''.

"No one would dispute it was very distressing for her to find out you had been spying on her,'' Ms Carlin said.

She said as Han was unlikely to do anything similar again, a conviction would not be recorded.

Han was placed on a good behaviour bond for 12 months, ordered to continue counselling and pay $600 to the court fund.

The camera was also forfeited and Han ordered to pay $200 restitution to the victim for lost rent as she had to leave the house.
