A Glenhuntly man who smashed into two parked cars was also caught with meth in his pocket and two weapons stashed in his car, a court has heard.

Jason Hannah, 34, pleaded guilty in the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on March 12 to possessing methamphetamines, refusing to undergo an oral fluid test, weapons possession and more.

The court heard Hannah was seen by police on June 4 last year parked in the Sandbelt Club Hotel car park on South Rd in Moorabbin.

Officers said Hannah appeared “drug affected”, with dilated pupils, a nervous disposition and was shaking, and so carried out a search of his car.

The court heard Hannah became uncooperative and was handcuffed, before police found a bag of a white crystallised substance, later confirmed as methamphetamines, in one of his pockets.

Police also found a flip knife and an extendible baton inside his car.

Hannah admitted to police that he had the drugs, saying he “didn’t use it often”.

Police found a small zip-lock bag of meth on Hannah during their search.

“They’re just party drugs,” the court heard.

“I got it for $100.”

Hannah further told police he had purchased the weapons on eBay.

He told police he’d purchased the knife for work and the baton after he’d been in a car accident in New Zealand.

“I bought it so if I’m in another accident I can break windows easier,” he said.

“It was cheaper than buying a window breaker.”

Hannah caught police’s attention for the second time on November 13 in 2023.

He was driving on South Rd in Moorabbin before crashing with a parked car, writing off both his car and the victim’s car.

The smash caused his car to pivot and hit another vehicle, leaving the second car with severe damage.

Both cars Hannah smashed into were owned by the same person.

The court heard Hannah stayed to assist police and exchange his details with the victim, but he refused to give an oral fluid test.

Hannah will return to Moorabbin Court on April 11 to find out what compensation he will be ordered to pay his victim.

“I’m already criminally charged with something,” he said.

“Here we go again, I’m just not saying anything.”

On Tuesday, the court heard Hannah had been in a “stressful job” at the time of his offending, where he re-finished boats.

The court was told the job was “highly stressful, didn’t pay well and he was working long hours”.

Magistrate Ross Maxted fined and convicted Hannah $1000 over the weapons and drugs charges but said the offending was “not insignificant” and wanted to ensure the victim was properly compensated for the loss of their first car and damage to the second one.

Hannah told the court he was willing to pay compensation to the victim.

Mr Maxted adjourned his sentence on the matter to April 11.
