A FUNDRAISER to help the family of a Black Rock toddler battling an aggressive form of cancer will be held later this month.
Ava Wake had just turned two when her parents Leanne and James found out their precious baby girl has Neuroblastoma — an aggressive cancer with only a 40 per cent survival rate.
“We noticed she wasn’t herself,” mum Leanne said.
“She became very upset, stopped sleeping well and would frequently wake, crying.
“She eventually stopped walking, playing, and was inconsolable.”

The parents were told Ava’s best chance was to undertake a new trail treatment at New York City’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital.
However, the treatment costs $350,000 not including flights and accommodation so they called on their Bayside friends for help.
They were shocked by the overwhelming support they have received from many in the community.
“I have never seen a community come together so willingly and quickly, to offer up so many talents,” father James said.
“We have been overwhelmed with the support for our Ava and just hope we get a really good turn out on the day.”
More than 65 Baysiders have been busy donating their time organising a fundraiser at Moorabbin’s Kingston Art Centre on Saturday, August 25 from 8am to 3pm.
Services for sale include car washing, massage, physiotherapy, facials, manicures, haircuts, spray-tans, counselling, face painting, photography, gardening, babysitting and house cleaning.
All proceeds raised will directly fund Ava’s treatment.
