A former Bunnings employee has been accused of stealing from the hardware giant during her shifts at the Mentone store.

Sharon Hooper fronted Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court over allegations she stole numerous items from the store on four separate occasions while she was working there.

Among the items Ms Hooper is alleged to have pilfered were cargo pants, a wheel lock, candles, felt tip markers, grinding discs, tool bags and a roof rack, totalling $246.95.

The court heard Bunnings called in an investigator after other staff members reported Ms Hooper’s “suspicious behaviour”.

The prosecution allege Ms Hooper packed the various items into boxes and bags and walked out with them at the end of her shift without paying.

The Frankston grandmother allegedly refused to co-operate with the investigator and the alleged thefts were reported to police, the court heard.

During a police interview, Ms Hooper denied taking everything except the grinding discs.

“I took the discs, that’s it, I didn’t take anything else,” she said.

Ms Hooper, who was unrepresented in court, said she would plead guilty to all charged just to get the matter over with.

But Magistrate Victoria Campbell warned her to seek legal advice.

“The last three times you’ve been before the court on dishonesty offences … you were fined but I don’t intend to fine you this time,” she said.

The matter has been adjourned to a contest hearing in February.
