With less than 100 days to the state election, the smoke and mirrors are well and truly evident as the campaign steps up a notch.
An eagle-eyed Leader reader noted that a pamphlet distributed on behalf of Liberal candidate Sean Armistead featured a list of achievements for the Frankston electorate.
But as our reader pointed out, a number of the ‘wins’ could clearly be attributed to Liberal-turned-Independent MP Geoff Shaw.
Mr Armistead’s — both of which Mr Shaw fought hard for.
While these occurred during the Liberal Party’s term of office, discerning readers can determine who should get the credit.
Mr Armistead strongly rejected suggestions he was trying to claim credit for Mr Shaw’s achievements.
“Everything that’s listed in the material is an achievement of the Coalition Government,” he said.
Mr Armistead said the pamphlet outlined his story, values and principles.
He said a complaint from Mr Shaw about the matter had been referred to the Liberal Party’s state headquarters.
Mr Shaw said he had worked hard over the past three-and-a-half years to achieve “each and every positive improvement to come to Frankston”.
“For someone to come along, and wrongfully claim that he was responsible for improvements that I, and my team, worked very hard to achieve is completely unethical,” he said.
“Many of the achievements that he is claiming as his own were personal election commitments that I have since delivered on.
“Several of the achievements listed were the result of my personal discussions with the Treasurer, and community groups, or initiatives that my team worked very hard to achieve through our electorate office, on behalf of a concerned local.
“I know the people of Frankston can see through this rubbish as all of the candidates have so far achieved nothing.”
