A household in Caulfield is in complete sock shock after collecting more than 2000 pairs.
But it’s all for the Socks 4 Support charity which Benjy, 10, founded last year.
“I was walking home in the cold and I thought about all the people who didn’t have anything to help them get warm,” Benjy said.
“Everyone should have warm socks because if they don’t they could get cold and maybe die.”
Benjy reached his target of collecting 5000 pairs of donated new and second-hand socks last year.
He donated them to organisations such as St Kilda Mums, Avalon and Reaching Out Because We Can.
So far this year, Benjy has had 2836 pairs of socks donated but hopes to reach his target of 5500.
And he’s added an orphanage in Ukraine to his list of organisations to donate to.
“I’m very proud,” he said.
“Having a charity is not really that much hard work when you are excited about what you do and you put in lots of effort but it doesn’t actually feel like effort — just good work.”
