A woman accused of assaulting an emergency worker in St Kilda is trying to negotiate a deal to reduce the charges against her.

Coco Lilagan, 24, faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with assaulting an emergency worker in St Kilda in July last year.

Court documents reveal the Caulfield North woman is charged with a string of assault related offences, including two counts of intentionally causing injury and five counts of assaulting an emergency worker, an offence that carries a maximum of five years imprisonment.

The court heard Ms Lilagan’s lawyers were negotiating a deal with the crown that would see the charges against her downgraded from the indictable stream to the summary stream.

That means Ms Lilagan would be dealt with in the Magistrates’ Court instead of the County Court, where she would face less severe sentencing.

Ms Lilagan’s lawyer opposed media access to information pertaining to the allegations against her, arguing she was “vulnerable” due to experiencing homelessness and mental health issues.

Ms Lilagan, who wore a cream jumper, black pants and white sneakers to court, will remain on bail ahead of her next court date in February.
