Man who held up Ringwood North milk bar with tomahawk jailed for four years, nine months
According to police, the 44-year-old victim was attacked while fishing at the Beaumaris Yacht Club pier just after midnight on Friday, July 27.
The unknown assailant approached the victim and struck him in the back of his head with a tomahawk.
The victim, who did not know his attacker, was baiting his hook at the time.
Despite his head injuries, the victim managed to drive himself back to his Springvale home, where his family called an ambulance.
He is currently at the Alfred Hospital receiving treatment for serious head injuries.
Bayside detective Senior Sergeant Dale Johnson labelled the attack “savage, random and unprovoked”.
“We want him caught because he is a threat to the public who could attack again,” he said.
The victim told police his attacker was caucasian in appearance, aged about 20, with a skinny build and wearing a hoody.
Police hope to speak to the victim again to get a more detailed description and expect to release a photofit of the offender in the coming days.
