Bargains on offer at Network Video Sandringham closing down sale

Bayside’s last video store is shutting down next month after serving people the latest hits for more than 25 years. But movie buffs can still snag some bargains at the Sandringham shop’s closing-down sale.

Bayside’s last video store is set to close its doors after more than 25 years.

Network Video Sandringham owner Paul Spano said the store would close next month but not before a massive closing-down sale.

Mr Spano told the Leader it was a “testament to our loyal customers” that his store was one of the last Melbourne stores left standing for so long.

“Netflix and technology are taking over and DVDs are becoming a thing of the past,” he said.

“It’s pretty amazing we held on here for as long as we did.”

Mr Spano opened his first video store, Movieland, in Bay St, Brighton in 1982 and went on to open 135 stores around Australia.

Network Video Sandringham is the last in his stable, and the only video store remaining in the Bayside area.

Mr Spano said he couldn’t have kept the store running without the dedicated staff, including manger Bill Paras who had worked at the Brighton and Sandringham stores for 30 years.

Staff members Lyndal Scanlon and Danielle Mudrinic have worked there for 22 years and 12 years respectively.

“I’ve had the same staff for nearly 25 years and Bill has been with me for 30,” he said.

“The success of this store is because of them.”

Mr Spano said the closing-down sale would be held at the Station St store from October 27 to coincide with the Sandringham Village Fair.

Movie buffs can expect to get their hands on the latest releases, old favourites and cult flicks at bargain prices.
