Australian Survivor 2022: Black Rock’s Jordie Hanson promises ‘chaos’ in new season

A landscaper and wannabe radio star with big views on reconciliation says Survivor fans are in for a real treat.

A Black Rock landscaper has shed a light on the tough conditions and gameplay in the latest season of Australian Survivor, describing it as full of “chaos”.

Jordie Hanson, 25, and his triathlete brother Jesse, 22, are among the contestants in this year’s local version of the Network 10 reality show, which begins Monday.

The latest series, filmed in the North Queensland outback last year, pits duos and couples against each other for a chance at winning $250,000.

In a big coup for producers, two-time US Survivor winner Sandra Diaz and her daughter Nina Twine are also competing in this year’s series.

Mr Hanson said he and his brother “thrived in the chaos” and the gameplay was “on another level” compared to previous seasons.

“There was no calm, no chill out there,” he said.

“Over the years of watching you have expectations of what its like, but I underestimated how hard it would be physical and mentally.

Mr Hanson said he rushed to the pub for a feed as soon as he could after filming wrapped.

“Pretty much we were running off rice and beans the whole time, a couple of handfuls every day,” he said.

“When we finished, the first thing I had was big frosty pint of beer and a chicken schnitty.”

Mr Hanson said it was “an honour” to compete alongside Diaz, who he dubbed the “queen” of the game. and said he wasn’t overawed by her inclusion.

“Having watched her over the years and studied her game, she knows what she’s doing, she’s won it twice now,” he said.

“It was good because I knew the way she played, it was almost like knowing someone and their gameplay, it was comforting.”

Outside of his day job, Mr Hanson volunteers on community radio and is a big supporter of Indigenous reconciliation, posting a video on Instagram about Australia Day last week.

“Over the years having spent time with Anangu (people from the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara Tribes) and hearing the call to change the date from our First National communities, I stand with them today,” he wrote.

“Let’s change the date, so all Australians can celebrate and not have it as a day of sorrow.”

The brothers are among a collection of Survivor castaways from the new season based in Melbourne’s inner south.

Elwood drummer Jay is competing with wife Alex, a warehouse operator.

Former MasterChef contestant and chef at The George on Collins, Khanh Ong, also from Elwood, is competing with beautician sister Amy.

Hampton pilot Josh rounds out the inner south contingent, playing alongside cousin Jordan, a personal trainer.
