A Melbourne energy worker has denied allegations he sexually assaulted a woman inside a city office building elevator.

William Toumbos, 36, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with sexual assault.

Mr Toumbos, who worked for Choice Energy at the time of the suspected misconduct, allegedly sexually assaulted a woman earlier this year.

The court heard Mr Toumbos allegedly attempted to sexual assault the woman but she kept her back to the elevator door inside the St Kilda Rd building.

It’s alleged the woman asked Mr Toumbos “what the f--k are you doing” before exiting the elevator, the court was told.

The woman, who the court heard was “highly stressed”, later told her mother about the alleged sexual offending before the matter was referred to police.

Mr Toumbos waived his right to a police interview before he was charged by Bayside Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team members on September 15.

The court heard Mr Toumbos, who was also charged with attempted sexual assault, claimed he was “invited to check her (the woman’s) buttocks” while in the elevator.

Mr Toumbos, of Sunbury, will face court at a later date.
