Rowdy partygoers have trashed a recently upgraded Stonnington park with booze and broken glass on the first weekend after coronavirus restrictions eased.
The behaviour at Windsor Siding Park has angered locals who took to social media to complain about the maskless noisemakers.
On the Residents living in the electorate of Higgins Facebook group Jeremy Press complained about the noisy behaviour at the park just after 12.30am on Saturday, October 31.
“100+ people in Windsor Siding, a lot of alcohol, a lot of broken glass, a lot of noise, not a mask in sight,” Mr Press said.
Stonnington Council Victorian Greens candidate Mike Scott visited the park later that morning to clean up some of the rubbish.
Mr Scott and group of people went down to the park again on Sunday morning following more rowdy behaviour on Saturday night.
He reported finding broken glass on walking paths, the park’s basketball court and in a barbecue area.
“Clearly there’s some issues down here, there’s lots of broken glass, there’s bottles strewn everywhere,” he said in the video.
“I get that it’s Halloween, but we don’t have to be make it scary for everyone.”
Mr Scott said similar gatherings had taken place at the park prior to the coronavirus outbreak.
He called on Stonnington Council to install more bins in the park for people to leave their rubbish, and for the bins to emptied more often.
“The bins are full, and if people want to do the right thing (and use the bins), they can’t,” Mr Scott said.
In September the council was left red-faced for a poorly-installed new security gate at the park, which youngsters could easily walk around.
The council and Prahran Police have been contacted for comment.
