A man has tragically died after being hit by a car while walking down a main Vermont road early on Thursday morning. The driver, who stopped to help, is helping police with their inquiries.

A man has tragically died after being hit by a car while walking down a main road in Vermont in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police believe the fatal collision happened when the man was struck by a black stationwagon which was travelling along Canterbury Rd about 2.30am.
The pedestrian, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The driver of the stationwagon, a 59-year-old man from Glen Waverley, stopped at the scene and alerted emergency services.
He is assisting police with their inquiries.
Nunawading highway patrol are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
