A PROMINENT Camberwell shopping centre has been given the green light to expand.
The Well Shopping Centre will purchase 203sq m of land for the planned extensions, after Boroondara Council voted to sell the council-owned land and associated airspace at a specially convened meeting on Monday.
The decision will result in a loss of three car parks, but includes an opportunity to improve pedestrian access. This comprises wider footpaths, more trees and public space and scope to develop shopfronts.
The extensions will be at the rear of the shopping centre, fronting the Harold St car park.
It will include the extension of the fruit and vegetable tenancy and a balcony extension to the upper level restaurant. An external lift will allow evening access to the restaurant.
