LACHLAN Fitzgerald has high hopes and a blossoming sporting career that looks set to shoot him to stardom.

But being propelled to dizzying heights is all in a day’s work for the 19-year-old aerial skier from Armadale, who is training with the Australian team.

The Australian team is preparing for the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics.

“I’ve only been in aerials just over a year now. But they’re really pushing us (in training),” Fitzgerald said.

“It’s a bit out of the picture but I’d like to make it there.”

The former award winning gymnast trains for up to six hours a day on the slopes of Mt Buller in winter before heading to the gym for an evening cardio or weights session.

He is also gearing up for a gruelling training camp in Utah later this year, where he will train alongside the best of the best in preparation for the world stage.

“To be honest I never took interest in aerial skiing. I never looked at it as a sport I would do,” Fitzgerald said.

“(But gymnastics) was possibly the best transition you could get. You’ve got the ability in the air. You just got to learn to ski.”

Lachlan Fitzgerald is eligible to be a Stonnington Leader senior sports star nominee.
