Stonnington records 16 per cent increase in criminal incidents since March 2019
Theft has spiked in Stonnington according to the latest crime statistics, with items stolen from an extra 500 cars in the space of 12 months.

Crime has soared by more than 16 per cent in Stonnington in twelve months, with a major jump in thefts from cars, shops and in other incidents.
The latest Crime Statistics Agency data showed 9487 criminal incidents were recorded in the 12 months to March, a 16.1 per cent jump from 8170 incidents a year earlier.
Stonnington has also made the top five of Melbourne’s most dangerous local government areas for homicides, ranked fourth with nine incidents or homicide-related offences recorded.
The data showed more than 500 extra thefts from cars were reported in the area, with a total of 1841 thefts from cars compared with 1337 the previous year.
There was also an increase of 240 ‘other’ thefts in the same period and 102 more incidents where items were stolen from shops.
Malvern East was Stonnington’s most crime-filled suburb, with 2083 criminal incidents reported — a jump of 389 incidents in 12 months.
More than 2000 crimes were also committed in South Yarra (2049, increase of 170 incidents) and Prahran (2040, increase of 138 incidents).
