COVID-safe clubbing is a step closer in Melbourne with one of the city’s most famous venues reopening its doors.
Prahran’s Revolver nightclub will launch its open-air Revolver Downstairs offering on Thursday, November 19.
It comes after another Chapel St nightclub, OneSixOne, began serving cocktails indoors and on its rooftop earlier this month.
Revolver’s operators are promising an “experience like no other” with guests getting access to its outdoor beer garden and food from the Colonel Tan’s Thai restaurant on site.
Guests will also be able to enjoy cocktails and beers while listening to resident DJs and checking out art installations.
“Come enjoy the sunsets in the beer garden with us and support Revs mission to a full reopening in 2021,” the club wrote on its Facebook page.
The nightclub has introduced an online booking system, allowing ticketholders to come inside for a 105-minute session.
It is unclear how many people the venue will let in for each session, but Victoria’s coronavirus restrictions allow a maximum of 70 people outdoors at cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants.
The sessions are from 5-10.45pm from Thursday-Saturday, and 1-8.45pm on Sunday.
Chapel Street Precinct general manager Chrissie Maus said the reopening of Revolver was exciting for the strip’s famous club scene.
“Our clubs were the first to close and now the last to open, and I’m in awe of their resilience,” she said.
“There is a groundswell movement for supporting local businesses, especially our night-time economy.”
Meanwhile, the owner of another well-known Chapel St nightclub won’t be firing up the decks again until she can give regulars the full experience.
Chasers Nightclub owner Martha Tsamis said it was not viable to stage club nights at her venue under the present restrictions.
“Forty people in our space doesn’t feel right, we want to do it properly,” she said.
“We don’t want to plonk people in a corner, take their money, and not give the ambience a venue like ours used to create.”
Mr Tsamis said she planned to launch an outdoor finger food and cocktail bar surrounding the venue in the coming weeks.
Revolver’s management were contacted for comment.
