A PRAHRAN landlord is being investigated by Stonnington police after he was allegedly caught spying on his long-term tenant.
A 47-year-old man moved into the property in 2013 but only recently discovered one of the covert cameras after fiddling with a broken fan in his loungeroom.
Police executed a search warrant and said they found several hidden cameras in various locations in the Prahran rental property.
The cameras were found to be recording footage and sending it to the landlord’s home.
Detective Senior Constable Shane Abson said the case, though uncommon, was worrying due to the “disturbing” nature of the alleged offence.
“He (the victim) felt violated and as if his privacy had been destroyed,” Sen-Constable Abson said.
A 67-year-old man is due to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in May charged with stalking and use of an optical device without consent.
The alleged victim has since moved out of the rental property.
