Camberwell

People have been warned to be on high alert to the dodgy dealings of a scammer doing the rounds in Camberwell and Hawthorn. The man, who is described as southern European in appearance and aged between 50 to 60, targets businesses in shopping precincts and pretends to be an employee of a nearby restaurant. He tells his victims his car has broken down and asks to borrow $250 to $350 cash to pay for an RACV repair person. He promises to return later to pay them back but disappears never to be seen or heard from again. Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Kew

A 24-year-old woman was arrested last month after allegedly taking police on a wild chase following an alleged theft in Kew. The woman was driving an allegedly stolen Lexus when she pulled up beside a man walking along Yarra Boulevard about 9.10am on November 13. The woman asked the man if she could borrow his phone and then snatched it from his hands, and when he tried to grab the phone back the woman pulled out a knife and allegedly slashed his hand before taking off. The woman was later arrested following a police pursuit that ended with her allegedly ramming her car into another car. She was taken to hospital with minor injuries before being remanded in custody.
