A LARGER than life mural immortalising Melbourne’s own NBA Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons is set to stay, with fans and tourists swarming to Windsor’s Chapel St to see the impressive artwork.

The mural was painted by Bentleigh East artist Lynch back in March but is only now becoming one of Melbourne’s newest tourist attractions.

According to local traders, people are regularly flocking to the Chapel St site opposite Windsor station to get selfies, pictures and videos of the colourful homage to Australia’s best basketballer.

Lynch, 23, whose real name is Rory Lynch-Wells, said he chose Simmons purely because he loves basketball.

“I’m a simple guy, I love basketball and Simmons is such a cool guy,” Lynch said.

“This is my first public piece but I think it’s my best work and I hope it stays around for as long as possible.”

Simmons himself has also given it his tick of approval, posting on Instagram to his three million followers the mural was “amazing”.

The mural was a joint community project, with Lynch teaming up with local traders to deliver the piece.

Smart Stay Melbourne allowed Lynch to use their wall and Paint Spot donated the paint for the mural, which took a week to complete.

“The wall was totally worn out but Rory made it colourful and a whole lot better and we plan to keep the mural for as long as we have the building,” Smart Stay manager Ann Faulkner said.
