Kew mum Eliza Morieson charged with obtain property by deception, burglary and identity theft

A Melbourne mum copped more than 100 charges for an alleged Catch Me If You Can style bogus cheque and identity theft racket.

A Melbourne mother allegedly ran a fraud racket perpetrated with bogus cheques, falsified documents and a den of stolen identities and expensive goods.

Eliza Morieson, 24, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with 101 offences including obtain property by deception, burglary and identity document theft.

Morieson allegedly falsified a bank cheque to grift Westpac out of an unknown amount of cash on January 27 last year.

It’s alleged Morieson passed the phony cheque to a Westpac employee who was duped into clearing funds to the accused fraudster.

Morieson also allegedly burgled a Seaford home on January 24 where police say she made off with stolen identity and banking documents.

Police arrested Morieson and searched her Kew home on March 16.

It’s alleged Morieson was nabbed with a stack of suspected stolen items including a G4S prison uniform jacket, mobile phones, computer devices, expensive clothing, passports, bank and identity documents, cards and number plates.

Morieson was also allegedly caught with cash, a $399 Katmandu jacket, gun ammo and a knife.

Police also allegedly seized a false document designed to glean the NAB out of cash and suspected stolen NAB bank cheques.

Morieson’s matter was delayed after the young mother was a no show at court before lunch.

The court heard Morieson, who had been ordered to appear in person, was dealing with her sick child.

An alleged accomplice linked to the alleged offending had his matter finalised at an earlier court hearing.

Morieson had her bail extended to front court again in August.
