ELWOOD College parents can breathe a sigh of relief: a multi-million dollar revamp of the school’s ageing campus now has bipartisan support.
Brighton Liberal MP Louise Asher yesterday announced an $8.2 million pre-election commitment for the first stage of the College’s Master Plan.
Ms Asher said the cash would pay for “a new double-storey building with flexible learning spaces, a new canteen and refurbishment of Block G of the college.”
The pledge comes two months after Labor promised $10 million for the same project, after a sustained community campaign.

The college’s council president Sue Constable said parents and teachers were “pleased and relieved” to have both major parties’ commitment.
She thanked supporters who signed the college’s petition, liked Friends of Elwood College on Facebook and lobbied their State Election candidates.
“This has been a real community effort,” Ms Constable said.
As reported in the Leader on April 20, Elwood College’s 1950s classrooms have languished since a plan to revamp the campus was shelved after Labor’s defeat in 2010.
Mr Foley had made a similar commitment before that election.
Parents and students refused to give up, and relaunched the campaign in April
