The director of a Camberwell car sales business being investigated for allegedly operating in a “dishonest and unfair manner” and selling cars without proper paperwork is urging people to give him a second chance.

Consumer Affairs Victoria is taking action against Five Star Car Sales in Thomas St, alleging the business breached a number of its obligations under trader laws from January 2014 to March 2018.

It alleges Five Star acted in a dishonest or unfair manner and the director Bo Li, 31, of Camberwell, was not a fit and proper person to be a director of a car company, and operated without a licence.

It’s also alleged the company employed someone who was disqualified from doing so, and did not include the appropriate information in car advertisements.

Consumer Affairs also claims the car sales did not have the required forms attached, and the business showed inspectors a false and misleading document.

“Five Star came to our attention during a site inspection and following consumer complaints,” the Consumer Affairs document states.

Mr Li told Leader he took full responsibility and shouldn’t have employed someone who was not appropriate for the job.

“I was honest but after 2018, I realised something was wrong and it’s still my fault,” Mr Li said.

“I should be punished but you need to give me a second chance and a chance to correct my mistakes.

“I’m doing it in the right way now and have bought a new warehouse.”

The business faces orders including a penalty, and having its licence cancelled, suspended or restricted.

The matter will be heard at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal in coming months.
