TWO Boroondara schools, Camberwell High and Kew East Primary, will share in $15 million worth of State Government cash if the Coalition is returned to office at the November 29 state election.
Camberwell High School has been promised $10.8 million to upgrade facilities, including fire piping which has operated since the school was opened in 1941, an oval redevelopment, a replacement of an original facade and external landscaping to connect different sections of the school.
Kew East Primary School will receive $4.2 million to upgrade the staff centre, senior student centre and 90-year-old junior school building.
Education Minister Martin Dixon made the announcements when he visited both schools yesterday.
“The Victorian Coalition Government is building better schools for all Victorian students and I’m delighted to announce that under a re-elected Napthine Government Camberwell High School and Kew East Primary School will undergo $10.8 million and $4.2 million upgrades,” Mr Dixon said.
A spokesman for Opposition Education spokesman James Merlino said after three-and-a-half years of sitting on his hands, it was only now on the eve of the election Dr Napthine was opening the chequebook.
“Labor has an education plan to invest $630 million to fix school buildings, implement a $320 million TAFE Rescue Fund and help struggling parents with the costs of uniforms, breakfasts, camps, sport and excursions,” the spokesman said.
