Four men armed with a knife and axe demanded cigarettes from a local store, but when there was nothing to smoke they stole high-end booze instead.
Boroondara detectives are appealing for public help after an armed robbery at a supermarket on Willsmere Rd, Kew Tuesday night.

Police say four unknown armed men entered the store about 8.30pm and made demands for cigarettes, but there were none in the store so they reached for $800 worth of alcohol instead.
The group fled the store and hopped into a white SUV parked nearby.
No staff members sustained any injuries during the armed robbery.
Police believe the same men stole about $400 worth of alcohol from a liquor store on Through Rd, Camberwell about an hour earlier.
Detectives have released CCTV footage of the males they believe can assist with their investigation.
