The site of a former residential aged care home which has been on the market for more than 18 months could soon be home to more than 20 apartments.
Camberwell Manor helped care for more than 2000 people since it opened in 1997, as well as thousands more when it began operating as a private hospital in the 1940s.
Residents who stayed at the 31-bedroom manor left the site in August 2018 when it was listed on the market.
The 2090sq m block is at 603 Riversdale Rd, on the corner with Trafalgar Rd.
But after failing to sell, the owner — who managed the aged care home for the duration of its 21 years open — joined with Cugura Builders and Ratio Consultants to form the development application to Boroondara Council.
The $8 million development would include 24 apartments in a two-storey building, with 46 underground car spots and 10 for bikes.
Each level would have one one-bed, nine two-bed and two three-bed apartments.
The existing building would be demolished.

The site is next |to the controversial construction of a two-storey medical centre on the corner of Riversdale and Kasouka roads, which used to home a single-storey Victorian house.
The application will not be decided on before May 19.
