Nathan Finlay: Two men arrested after fatal Mildura stabbing

Two men have been arrested in dramatic fashion with the help of the police air wing after the alleged stabbing death of Mildura man Nathan Finlay.

Two men have been arrested over the alleged stabbing death of Miludra man Nathan Finlay.

Homicide Squad detectives arrested two Mildura men on Monday morning, following Mr Finlay’s death on Saturday.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Mildura following an earlier alleged carjacking and a 23-year-old Mildura man was arrested a short time later in Renmark, South Australia, after he was intercepted by police with assistance from the air wing.

He was also allegedly in a stolen vehicle.

Both men are being interviewed by police.

Mr Finlay, who was allegedly stabbed to death on Saturday, has been remembered as someone who “always gave life his all”.

He presented to Mildura Hospital with stab wounds about 4.45pm Saturday, May 21, but sadly could not be saved.

Friend Cassie Mattson went to school with Mr Finlay in Red Cliffs and said “Nath was a big teddy and a character.”

“He loved anything outdoors and worked hard to achieve all he had dreamt of,” Ms Mattson said.

“We often rode our bikes around at night getting in mischief. There was never a dull moment when you hung with Nath.”

Ms Mattson said Mr Finlay, who worked in mining, was the kind of man to always give life his best, no matter the circumstances.

Belinder Parker wrote on Facebook: “So sad. So Young. R.I.P. Nathan Finlay.”

Another friend Maheala Demetrius Dakydyn said Mr Finlay was her “best friend” and wrote on Facebook: “No matter what you will always (be a) good mate off mine.”

The homicide squad will continue to probe the cause of the fatal stabbing.

The motive is not yet known.
