A MILESTONE race for a running club celebrating 21 years will start one minute later than intended.
That’s because the 250th, 5km handicap run of the Hobsons Bay Running Club will be held on Anzac Day.
“The run will start at 8.01am, following a minute’s silence for the Diggers,’’ club member Kieran Leonard said.
Mr Leonard said the club was founded in 1994 by Eero and Sara Keranen and now had 80 registered runners.
“Eero still holds the club record for the fastest time by a member although guest Olympian Jeff Hunt recently snatched the all-comers record from him with a time of 14.58 min,’’ he said.
Club members meet for runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Newport Lakes with the regular handicap run held on Sundays along the Williamstown foreshore.
No guest fees will be charged for the anniversary event but people are asked to register at 7.45am on the day at the corner of The Strand and North Rd.
A free breakfast will be served at the Gatehouse, on The Strand, before the event.
