A Tatura army veteran has been accused of engaging in sexual activity with a child while allegedly being busted with a stash of child abuse material.

Jade Douglas Bingley, 38, fronted the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on November 26 after he was charged with a range of child sex offences.

Mr Bingley is charged with engaging in sexual activity with a child while using a carriage service, communicating with the intention of facilitating a child’s engagement in a sexual offence, accessing child abuse material, possessing child abuse material and planning to engage in a sexual activity with a child.

Mr Bingley, who appeared via video link from Ravenhall Correctional Centre, was charged by the Proactive Targeting division of Victoria Police on October 10.

The prosecution asked the court for more time to serve up their evidence as they needed to “identify and make contact with the child victims and their families”.

Mr Bingley, formerly of Tasmania, will front court again on February 17, 2025.
