A Shepparton man has been charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer, after allegedly driving recklessly at people, a court was told

Leigh Gilbee, 43, allegedly drove his vehicle at speed towards two people that may have placed them in danger of serious injury on May 8.

He was charged with two counts of engaging in reckless conduct.

The following day, Mr Gilbee allegedly assaulted a police custody officer.

It is alleged he also acted in a way that was prejudicial to the good order of the police jail, which can mean acting in a way that is disruptive, abusive or indecent.

He was charged with resisting a police officer and resisting a police custody officer on the same day.

Mr Gilbee is facing a charge of failing to appear in court on January 10 this year, in line with his bail conditions for unrelated matters.

Mr Gilbee was represented by his lawyer in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, but was unable to attend himself.

The matters were adjourned to May 2 and his bail was extended.
