A Shepparton man has been told by a magistrate to “start thinking” after was busted in his car moving into his girlfriend’s house, minus a valid licence.
Jacob Ashley Lancaster — who appeared via web link — pleaded guilty to failing to answer bail and driving while his licence was suspended at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Lancaster was pulled over by police about 6.17pm on March 20 in Shepparton.
The 24-year-old was unable to produce his driver’s licence, with police later discovering it was suspended.
The court heard Lancaster’s car was impounded and that he had lost licence for speeding.
When asked to give a reason for why he was driving while suspended, he told police he was moving out of his home and into his girlfriend’s place.
“I shouldn’t have done that,” Lancaster told police at the time.
Lancaster also failed to appear at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on January 10 for other matters, and had been caught drink driving in the past, the court was told.
“It’s a serious offence that you lost your licence for four years and then you hop in the car again,” Magistrate Simon Zebrowski told Lancaster.
“You keep ranking in fines.”
“I just didn’t think,” Lancaster told the court.
“Well start thinking,” Mr Zebrowski said.
Lancaster was convicted and fined $500 and will start a drink driving program on August 16.
