Shepparton Magistrates’ Court: Mohammed Baker Al-Gazaly guilty of exceeding speed limit
A Shepparton lab technician told police he was running late for work after they nailed him doing 152km/h in a 100km/h zone in the state’s north.
A “stressed” lab technician who was running late for work was busted doing 152km/h in a 100km/h in the state’s north.
Mohammed Baker Al-Gazaly pleaded guilty to one charge of exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h or more at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The 26-year-old was pulled over in Pine Lodge on March 17 this year.
When police asked Al-Gazaly why he was speeding, he told them he had a “stressful week” and was running late for work.
Al-Gazaly received an infringement notice of $925.
His defence lawyer Susan Campbell told the court he knew his actions were dangerous and stupid, and was aware there was a recent accident in that specific area where people died in a crash.
She added Al-Gazaly has learnt a “very important lesson”.
Magistrate Simon Zebrowski convicted and fined Al-Gazaly $500 and his licence was suspended for a period of 12 months.
