A grandmother and her family are rallying around a young girl battling cancer for the second time in her short life.

Results from “comprehensive testing” have revealed that Shepparton youngster Mia Depuit has a form of bone cancer.

The shocking news comes after the former Whitsundays bub had already beaten a previous cancer battle as a one-year-old in 2019.

Five-year-old Mia, who suffers from a hereditary and genetic cancer predisposition condition called Li Fraumeni Syndrome, requires nine months of chemotherapy, major surgery and rehabilitation.

Mia’s grandmother Susanna Stanley has set up a GoFundMe page to support the bub and her family.

“My son is the most generous person I know and is reluctant to ask for help himself, so my prayer is that you will kindly and generously donate to them so they can support Mia in every way possible during this traumatic time,” Susanna posted to the page.

Susanna has set up the page to help the family as they juggle the “stresses and pressures” of Mia’s battle alongside travelling, work commitments, finances, living away from home while simultaneously raising a three month year old baby.

After receiving the news in February 2019 that Mia was cancer free, parents Nicole and Ben Depuit were “over the moon”, and moved to Victoria from the Whitsundays to meet Mia’s ongoing health needs.

Ben Depuit recently updated the GoFundMe page by saying “Miss Mia is showing her strength and determination to beat cancer for the second time in her short life”.

Mia’s father also thanked those for all their “support, positive messages, prayers and generosity” during this difficult time.

So far more than $14,000 has been raised, with the ultimate goal being $50,000.
