A man has been busted driving more than five times over the legal limit in the state’s north after a massive Good Friday bender.

Benalla Highway Patrol officers were on patrol on Good Friday when they saw a vehicle driving slowly with no lights along Bridge St about 7pm.

When the vehicle pulled into a nearby carpark, officers gave the driver a preliminary breath test which gave a positive result.

The man went with police to Benalla station where he gave another breath test and returned a reading of 0.260.

The man’s licence was immediately suspended, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1280.

He was expected to be charged on summons with traffic related offences.
