A Skye man has been charged after he allegedly stole a trailer and threatened members of the public with a knife in Yea.
Residents of the north east Victorian town witnessed a man with reddish hair and glasses coupling a neighbour’s trailer to a ute on Saturday morning.
The man went on to allegedly steal camping gear, including a tent, esky and box cutter, from a car parked outside the property.
After learning about the alleged theft, the alleged victim and other locals tailed the ute to Endeavour petrol station on High St.
The alleged victim then caught the subsequent confrontation on video as one local attempted to stop the man by punching through the driver side window.
He could be seen allegedly pointing the stolen box cutter at the residents while the woman was on the phone to police.
“The cops are coming, I’m on triple-0, you’re done mate,” said the woman in the video.
“Give me my f***** tent and s***.”
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers were called to reports of the theft and subsequent hostile behaviour on High St about 11am.
“A 33-year-old Skye man was arrested at the scene,” she said.
“A search of his utility resulted in police seizing a box cutter as well as a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine and other drugs of dependence.
“He was subsequently charged with a string of drug, theft, assault, weapon, criminal damage and driving offences.”
The man was bailed to face Seymour Magistrates’ Court on May 15.
