A driver has been killed and another flown to hospital after a horrific smash north of Melbourne.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on the Northern Highway in Tooborac, about 90km north of Melbourne, after a collision between a truck and ute.
It is understood a semi-trailer collided with a ute just before noon on Wednesday.
The driver of the ute, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The semi-trailer driver was flown to hospital in a stable condition with lower body injuries.
The Northern Highway remains closed in both directions between Argyle and Tooborac and emergency services are diverting traffic at Heathcote-Nagambie and Seymour-Tooborac roads.
“The exact cause of the collision is being investigated and the highway north and southbound will be closed for some time,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman.
A CFA spokesman said five units from Heathcote, Costerfield and Tooborac had attended the scene, along with SES, paramedics and police.
It is understood the truck driver had to be freed from the truck.
