A Shepparton father has learnt his fate after police found cannabis, zip lock bags of ecstasy and “large amounts” of cash in his home.

Tristan Packer, 33, pleaded guilty at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Monday to possessing ecstasy and possessing cannabis.

He returned to court on Wednesday for sentencing.

Police conducted a search warrant at a property in Field St on March 6 where they found a ziplock bags containing ecstasy, cannabis and “large amounts” of cash, the court heard on Monday.

Packer, 33, turned himself in at Shepparton police station on Friday, July 7, making full admissions to the possessions.

He told police he had a prescription for the cannabis for his health but police believed it was “illegally obtained”.

Packer told officers he had ecstasy on him but did not take it, as it’s “not something he uses”, and had taken it off a friend who was “not well” and who owed him money.

The court heard on Monday he told police he received a script for the cannabis and was waiting to get money to pay for the prescription.

He also had prior offences for drug use in 2008.

Packer’s lawyer Zoe Corbett told the court he had engaged in a Court Integrated Services Program (CISP) and attended one meeting as he was “eager” to get help.

Packer works as a concreter in Geelong and travels occasionally to the area for work, the court heard.

Ms Corbett was seeking a fine for Packer, however Magistrate Victoria Campbell said the matters he was on bail for were “really serious”.

Ms Corbett said Packer handed himself in to police and had been in the “cells” since Friday.

“That would be a much better way to deal with his concerns,” Ms Corbett said, in her attempt to seek a fine.

She told the court Packer had children, health issues and was living alone.

Packer told the court on Wednesday he ordered online prescriptions for cannabis and got them delivered to his house by an online doctor.

“If I wasn’t using the oils I wouldn’t have needed that much cannabis,” Packer said.

Ms Corbett said Packer didn’t get the opportunity to provide his script when requested.

However Ms Campbell said it sounded “highly dodgy” and advised Packer to go and see a doctor “face-to-face”.

“I think it’s appropriate to place you on a Community Corrections Order,” Ms Campbell said.

Ms Campbell did not impose a fine on Packer and placed him on the corrections order for a period of 12 months.
