They are business owners, friends, parents and leaders in the community — and together they are forces to be reckoned with.

Here are some Goulburn Valley’s top power couples.

Matt and Shekiah Aylett

If you want to find yourself a tasty treat, savoury or sweet, you should visit Matt and Shekiah Aylett at North End Bakehouse Shepparton.

The Shepparton couple have owned the business for about seven-and-a-half years transforming it into one of the region’s best.

“We’ve managed not to kill each other in that time,” Shekiah joked.

“We’re really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve.”

It’s no surprise their business has been able to thrive with Shekiah previously owning a cake business while Matt has been a baker since he was 14.

The couple met at tafe and have gone from strength-to-strength.

Scott and Shelley Davis

Scott and Shelley Davis always want to do what is best for the community.

And they do so by providing plenty of entertainment options.

Their business, Enchanted Rainbow Entertainment, offers a range of activities including school holidays fun and face painting.

“We’re proud of what we do but one of the best things is coming up with new ideas,” Shelley said.

“Our business was established in 2005 and with great support from the community we’ve been able to achieve some things we didn’t think would be possible.

“We can’t wait for the world to open up some more so we can get back to doing what we love and making people smile.”

Russell and Tania Orchard

The business Russell and Tania Orchard have created does a lot more than the name suggests.

Goulburn Valley Party Hire specialises in weddings and parties, but the couple was forced to make their business flexible because of Covid, using their marquees for numerous not-so-traditional events across the Goulburn Valley and Melbourne.

“We’re pretty proud of the business we’ve built since it was formed,” Tania said.

“We’ve probably been one of the lucky ones in the past couple of years with everything which happens and we’re still excited about the wedding season and what it could do for other businesses in the area going forward.

“But we wouldn’t be where we are today without our customers.”

Frank and Jenny Lagozzino

The reputation of Frank and Jenny Lagozzino in the Tatura community is second to none.

The couple are co-owners of The Top Pub in Tatura, 20 minutes east of Shepparton.

Fellow residents were quick to sing their praises when the Goulburn Valley News called for nominations in the region’s top power couples.

“They do so much not only for Tatura but the surrounding towns,” one person said.

“From paying people‘s bills once a week. Supporting charities. Delivering meals, groceries and just checking in on people to ensure they are coping.

“(They are) such a generous family.”

Another person said: “They always go above and beyond for everyone. They never judge you or your circumstances. They lift you up.”

“They support, provide food, clothing, blankets, welders, a smile, a joke, a chat and a friendly ear. Meals and other items to those in need. I could go on.

“This is all done off their own backs. No funding, no support. Thank you for all you do for our community.”

Gina Sozzi and Sam Scarpari

In the eight years they’ve owned Bicaro’s Ristorante, Gina Sozzi and Sam Scarpari have turned the venue into one of Shepparton’s most in-demand.

It all started as a dream of stepping into the hospitality industry with Sam having experience as a winemaker.

And they’ve loved every moment of it.

“Hospitality isn’t for everyone but we love what we do,” Sam said.

“If you have the package and can present the package, people will come back. And we love our customers, we always look forward to having them back.”

The restaurant also acts a drop off point for parcels for FoodShare, a charity organisation where Gina sits on the board.

“Because people support us we want to give back to the community,” Sam said.
