Ashley Hurd, 35, committed 20 burglaries and thefts across Shepparton, Mooroopna and Kialla over a matter of months last year, pleading guilty in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

He was also charged with trespassing and criminal damage offences.

Hurd stole liquor, groceries, magazines and sunglasses during his spree, totalling more $700 in thefts.

Twice in August 2024, Hurd was loitering in Mooroopna McDonalds when he walked behind the counter and stole hamburgers.

He made no attempt to pay and was not given permission to be behind the counter by the store manager.

Magistrate Simon Zebrowski said the burglaries in McDonalds were at the lower end of the scale of seriousness but noted Hurd had previously been sentenced to 11 months in prison on a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Order for similar but unrelated offences.

Mr Zebrowski sentenced Hurd on the matters heard on Friday to three-months imprisonment to be served concurrently with his 11-month sentence.

He will be released in August.
