Man taken to hospital after house fire on Esperanto St, Benalla

A man has been taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation and minor injuries while escaping a burning home in Benalla on Monday morning.

A man has been taken to hospital after escaping a house fire in Benalla on Monday morning.

A CFA spokeswoman said five crews were called to a house fire on Esperanto St about 5.35am.

“Firefighters found the house well alight on arrival,” she said.

“One occupant of the house escaped safely.”

The spokeswoman said the person suffered smoke inhalation.

“The incident was brought under control just after 6am and declared safe at 7.39am,” she said.

“The cause will be investigated.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the scene about 5.40am.

“One person was transported to Benalla Public Hospital in a stable condition after being treated for minor upper body injuries,” she said.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police also attended the scene and confirmed the male occupant of the house was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire which is not believed to be suspicious,” she said.
