A Goulburn Valley grub has been exposed for raping a woman on Christmas Day.
Connor McManus, 26, of Kyabram pleaded guilty at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on June 12 to sexual assault and multiple counts of rape.
McManus raped, sexually assaulted and forced the woman to engage in sexual acts against her will in January 2020, the same day he intentionally engaged in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16.
Police alleged McManus beat the woman on multiple occasions and unlawfully imprisoned her against her will when he raped her, but the kidnapping and assault charges were withdrawn in a plea deal in court.
The case was then referred to the County Court due to its seriousness.
McManus was sentenced in the County Court on October 31 to more than 16 years in jail with a non-parole period of 10 years and six months.
Judge Rosemary Carlin, in her sentencing, told the 26-year-old his acts were "cruel and abusive in the extreme".
