A man charged with possessing drugs and using a stolen credit card was unable to front a Shepparton court due to being hospitalised the night before.
Jarrah Weston, 20, was expected in the Shepparton Magistrate’s Court on February 6 after he had been charged with possessing methylamphetamine and obtaining money to the value of more than $150 by deception and dishonestly.
The court heard Mr Weston was unconscious in hospital on Thursday morning after an alleged assault on Wednesday night, so was unable to attend the committal.
On August 2 last year, two debit cards were allegedly stolen from a Ford Escape by an unknown offender between 3.20am and 4.40am.
It is alleged Mr Weston came into possession of the cards at some point.
At 4.45am and 7.35am on the same day, Mr Weston was allegedly captured on CCTV using one of the cards at BP Mooroopna for three separate purchases.
He also allegedly used the card for two transactions for Belong Mobile Melbourne.
The following Monday, investigators went to Mr Weston’s caravan at Ardmona to execute a search warrant.
Mr Weston was inside and arrested, while a search of the caravan allegedly found 0.1g of methylamphetamine.
It is alleged Mr Weston said during a police interview on August 6, the drug was his and a domestic partner, and that he “took” the debit card and used it at Mooroopna on the Friday.
The court heard the matters had been resolved prior to the committal and would be granted a summary jurisdiction, to be adjourned.
Mr Weston will appear in Shepparton Magistrate’s Court on February 12 for the summary jurisdiction and other matters.
