Echuca duo allegedly smash police car in Rochester in failed escape

A man and a woman who were allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle tried to escape police but ended up stuck in a drain after smashing into the front of a cop car.

A couple allegedly busted trying to pinch a motorbike during a late-night heist in the state’s north. rammed into a police car in their failed attempt to escape.

Police came across the pair at 11.40pm on October 7 as they allegedly tried to load a motorbike onto a white Nissan Navara with a blue Nissan Navara nearby.

The driver of the blue Navara, which was towing a trailer, allegedly sped towards police, crashing into the front of their car.

The driver then tried to reverse but backed into a drain and became stuck. The pair allegedly tried to escape on foot but were quickly arrested. The white Nissan fled the scene and the driver is yet to be located.

A 25-year-old male and a 24-year-old female — both from Echuca — were arrested and are helping police with their inquiries.
