A country Victorian newsagent might just have the golden touch when it comes to selling winning Tattslotto tickets, adding a local dad to its long list of division one winners.
The Echuca father became the 36th division one winner to buy a ticket from Echuca Lucky Lotto — the first major winner in the town this year.
Shop manager Eric Davey said he ”couldn’t be happier” to have sold another winning ticket.
“It’s fantastic,” he said.
“The last time we sold a division one winning entry was two years ago now, so we’re super excited to have sold another.
Mr Davey said he had decorated the store with balloons and extra signage.
“We hope our division one winner can enjoy their prize and get to experience their dreams come true,” he said.
Saturday’s Echuca winner — who took home $919,000 — plans to pay off his mortgage and help his adult children get started on their dream of owning homes.
Drawn on July 12, the northern Victorian held one of seven division one winners across the country.
Despite taking home the cash, the process was not without its stressful moments as the Echuca’s dad ticket was unregistered — meaning Lotto officials had no way of contacting him to alert him of his winnings.
The man said he was “sweating bullets” knowing his winning ticket was unregistered and he was so terrified of misplacing it that he couldn’t get to The Lott head office fast enough.
“It’s been so nerve-racking carrying around this unregistered ticket,” he said.
“I’ll definitely be registering any tickets from now on.
“I somewhat did know about the win, but I had to come to the newsagency to confirm it all.
“I don’t think it will click until I’ve received the funds, to be honest.”
He said the first thing on his list was to pay off his mortgage and then get started on helping his kids sort out their first homes.
“I’ll be paying off the mortgage for sure,” he said.
“Then I’ll put some aside for the kids and their home deposits.
“I’m sure I’ll enjoy the rest but be very responsible with it.”
The winning numbers in Tattslotto on Saturday were 36, 9, 37, 35, 23 and 29, while the supplementary numbers were 20 and 31.
In 2024, there were 316 division one winning Tattslotto entries across Australia that collectively won more than $400m.
So far this year there have been 233 winners.
