A man who was charged following an alleged hit-run in an allegedly stolen vehicle in Mooroopna will spend Christmas behind bars.
Echuca’s Chacain Kennedy, 24, and a Mooroopna woman, 25, were driving on Knight St when they allegedly ploughed into the back of tradie Sean Collins’ parked ute at 11.30am on October 28.
The pair is then accused of dumping the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
The Jeep was recovered in nearby bushland on McFarlane Rd not long after and a cordon was established.
Police then deployed capsicum spray to arrest the duo at 1.30pm, and seized a firearm near the Jeep.
Mr Collins, an electrician, heard a loud bang before he rushed out to see a car speeding off after his ute had been smashed into.
Mr Collins said the tray (of the ute) was “pushed into the cab” and the chassis was twisted.
Mr Collins, who has six children with his partner, told the Herald Sun he was “very stressed about how I’m supposed to provide without a work vehicle, and feel very unsafe in such a nice street”.
Mr Kennedy was charged with aggravated home invasion, theft, assault, firearms, drugs and traffic offences.
The woman was released pending further inquiries while police continue their investigation.
Mr Kennedy faced the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on October 29, where he appeared from custody.
He made no application for bail and will face court again on March 5.
