The grandmother of a boy that was injured by a dog in Greater Shepparton insists it was merely an accident after the boy and a Kelpie were playing together.

Shirli Smith said her grandson was playing with their dog at 2.30pm on October 27 at Merrigum when the dog jumped up and cut his lip.

“It was at our house, they were playing and the dog jumped up and the teeth hit the bottom of his lip”.

He was taken to Bendigo Hospital with facial injuries in a stable condition.

Ms Smith told the Herald Sun he required a few stitches and would be home from hospital in the next few days.

Kelpie’s are known for being working dogs.
